Our vision is enlightened workers in all domains who are comfortable with data and who can leverage a variety of data analytical tools, including artificial intelligence. We also envision a comprehensive education in data science and AI, equipping individuals and organizations with the skills needed to thrive in a data-driven world..

My data science journal began with several decades of health informatics experience in the US Navy and at the University of West Florida. After the publication of Health Informatics: Practical Guide (7th edition), I turned my attention to data science, which I found more interesting and challenging. In 2019, I had the fortunate opportunity to meet Bob Muenchen, which led to the publication of the Introduction to Biomedical Data Science textbook in 2019 and Data Preparation and Exploration in 2020. In 2022 I began collaboration with David Patrishkoff, who has extensive experience with data analytics and business intelligence in multiple industries. Over a period of 18 months, we collaborated almost daily to launch No Code Data Science, based on teaching introduction to intermediate data science without programming. We emphasized the use of two resources: Orange Data Mining and JASP statistical package.

Almost by accident, my journey into AI began when a colleague introduced me to Dr. Anthony Chang, who is widely regarded as the world's expert on AI in medicine. For the past 4+ years, I have taught artificial intelligence as core faculty of the American Board of AI in Medicine (ABAIM). While the initial participants were mainly physicians, participants now include all types of clinicians, administrators, and industry members. As of early 2025, we have taught close to 2000 participants. About 385 have been certified in AI, and 105 have an advanced certification. More details are available at https://abaim.org.
