Question:

How are we going to simultaneously teach critical thinking and artificial intelligence?
There is good quantitative and qualitative evidence that AI interferes with critical thinking because it is "cognitive offloading." Some administrative offloading is welcome in medicine but not in clinical decision support. (see attachment). Yesterday there was a blurb in Forbes on this same issue with some advice on how to use critical thinking as an edge when people become too dependent on AI. The article does make some important recommendations regarding how to combine AI with critical thinking. https://lnkd.in/gZajaBER

I think this conundrum is a major issue in medical education because medical students will be tempted to heavily rely on AI for differential diagnoses and decision-making, but they will not understand the importance of critical thinking. How are we going to teach the appropriate use of AI when it is freely available and dynamic?st content
